Singing Walks as Gaeilge is a community-based creative project that brings together Irish language song, gentle walking and connection with the local environment. Led by musician and facilitator Mícheál Ó Catháin, the project will invite people of all ages to take part in a series of inclusive outdoor singing walks through Douglas Community Park and Ballybrack Woods.

Over six weekly sessions, participants will explore simple Irish-language songs and vocal practices in a relaxed, non-performance setting. Designed to be welcoming to people with little or no Irish, the walks will combine singing, conversation and observation of the local landscape, creating opportunities for participants to engage with language, culture and nature in an accessible and enjoyable way.

As the programme develops, participants will be invited to share words, memories and reflections inspired by Douglas and its surroundings. These contributions will be woven into a new, collaboratively created song celebrating the area, its people and its natural environment. Through this co-creative process, participants will have the opportunity to connect more deeply with their local place while contributing to a shared cultural expression.

Developed in partnership with Douglas Community Association and supported by Douglas Library, the project promotes creativity, wellbeing and social connection through low-barrier participation in cultural activity.
