SLEEPERTOWN
SLEEPERTOWN is a mobile public art programme that uses sound art and Audio Augmented Reality (AAR) to transform public spaces into immersive listening experiences. Led by artist-curator Richard Carr in partnership with Dún Laoghaire based Sonic Artist Anthony Kelly, IADT and DLR Arts Office, the Dún Laoghaire programme presents its latest iteration.
The programme features 13 site-specific sonic experiences by leading Irish and international artists, composers, activists, poets and musicians. Using the free ECHOES app, audiences can discover geolocated artworks by walking through locations across Dún Laoghaire. Each work responds to the town's unique coastal landscape, architecture, history and cultural identity, inviting visitors to experience familiar places through listening, movement and imagination.
SLEEPERTOWN launches on 6 August 2026 at 6pm at The Studio, DLR LexIcon, with an official opening by Dr. Jenny Haughton, and runs until 30 November 2026. Throughout the exhibition, audiences are invited to explore the works at their own pace or can also take part in guided listening walks and public events.
SLEEPERTOWN offers a new way of experiencing Dún Laoghaire, revealing hidden stories, amplifying overlooked spaces, and encouraging people to connect with the town through sound, place and participation.
