The project came about through a personal need to inspire and create environmental awareness within the community of mending, repairing and appreciating clothing. It is a fundamental approach that is fast disappearing from modern society. Myself and Tara’s friendship and collaboration first ignited over heirloom clothing and fabric. We are both passionate about the environment and in particular the clothing/textile element. Due to family and other commitments the time did not present itself until now and we are excited to put together this project that we have discussed for years. We feel that people are becoming more considered about their treatment of clothing generally but often lack the ability to actively engage in the process of mending or customising their own garments. We believe it covers many aspects of the criteria in that it is a creative space which is open to all ages. It will contribute to the local and creative economy by means of invitation to local artists to join us both in performance and facilitation, by venue hire and by supporting the local charity shops. Charity shop purchasing can be a daunting prospect, it will be a running theme throughout the weekend which in itself is a local economy on many levels.
