Soundscapes of Nature

Soundscapes of Nature is created and animated by Finn Nichol with songs composed by Laura Shields, both award winning artists from Birr, inspired by flora, fauna, bogland myths and the natural world. It has been commissioned by Birr Festival of Music for Birr Young Voices and will be performed and screened outdoors on Saturday 30th April during the 2022 Festival. It will be the concluding event of Co. Offaly’s Faoin Spéir/In The Open.

Led by choral director Anne McCambridge, Belfast, emerging professional musicians and singers will work with over 30 children aged 8-12 years during the 2022 Easter school break (April 20-23rd) using both outdoor and indoor spaces. It will be structured as an Easter Camp, with singing, movement and visual art from 10am - 3pm at Birr Theatre & Arts Centre, and concluding with a visit to Boora Bog on Saturday for workshops with professional artists.

Soprano Breffni Fitzpatrick, baritone David Kennedy and pianist David Vesey will work with the children and take part in the performance with them the following Festival weekend. These are all young professionals from the Midland region who have come through the Trench Awards Project.

Soundscapes of Nature - 9.00pm (dusk) Saturday 30 April at Birr Castle Courtyard.
