Stories from the Herd: A Creative Equine-Assisted Arts Project
Stories from the Herd is a six-part community arts programme that combines equine-assisted experiences with visual art and creative writing to support wellbeing and self-expression. Taking place in a natural outdoor setting at Horses Connect in Galway, participants will engage in guided interactions with horses and then reflect on these experiences through structured creative workshops.
The project is designed for a small group of adults who experience social isolation, anxiety, or barriers to traditional creative supports, and is delivered by a team including an equine practitioner, a visual artist, and a writing facilitator. Across five weekly sessions and a final sharing event, participants will explore themes through observation, movement, and reflection, translating their experiences into artistic and written work.
By offering a non-verbal and experiential approach to creativity, the programme creates an inclusive and accessible space for expression, particularly for those who may feel excluded from conventional settings. It concludes with an optional in-house sharing event and is intended as a pilot that can be expanded or replicated in the future.
