“Surface” will be an exploration of both realpolitik and personal tragedy.
This project combines the experience of growing up in a rural fishing community with working experience in documentary research and writing for theatre, film and radio.
As part of this project research and development is taking place in collaboration with An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny a play exploring the real life experiences of fishermen who find themselves dragged out to sea by an unknown entity beneath. Survivors, and the families of those who have been lost on fishing vessels from Glengad, Malin Head and Greencastle are being interviewed.
“Surface” is a play that will appeal to both of these generations: those who tell their story and the young people who may not have had the opportunity to hear them. From the initial research it is known that members of these fishing communities will welcome the opportunity to testify and to share their stories with people within the community and to a broader audience.
