The Bog People
Bog People is a study and creative process documenting the stories , characters, and the historical tradition of cutting and working the bog in Rhode, Co Offaly for Bord na Mona and ESB.
The new government initiative to re-wet the bog lands means that this ancient Irish tradition and seasonal ritual of cutting the bogs for the winter fire will no more. This project is about documenting the workers who are no longer required and who have to change the way they work and heat their homes in the future.
Artist, Michelle O'Donnell will be working with Rhode Historical Society to research the workers, listening to their stories and will create a photographic exhibition of these people which will include their portrait and back story in a catalogue.
Details of exhibitions, once finalised will appear on Glasshammer Studios
