The aim of our project is to create a link between primary schools and our musical society. Having been founded in 1919, our society has a rich history of performance in the city, and we would like to inspire the next generation and to broaden their horizons to include performance and the arts. We also aim to give children an opportunity to perform in a professional theatre, with seasoned performers and accompanied by an orchestra. Children would also be given an opportunity to learn about the origins of the Cecilian Musical Society and indeed local theatre history as well as a chance to explore the inner workings of a theatrical performance such as sound and lighting.
With large academic workloads and pressures in primary school, teachers & students don’t get ample time to explore areas in the Arts. By creating a collaborative project, teachers are provided with the resources & a structured approach to exploring some of these areas. This culminates in them participating and collaborating with other schools in a final performance. Children will be given an opportunity to see and experience a variety of professionals working in theatre (not just performers).
School choirs will engage in lessons and learn music in various schools from September 2023 to October 2023.
Concert will take place in the Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick. Date TBC October 2023
