The Cormorant

Having produced four editions as a result of Creative Sligo Open Call funding 2018 and 2019, Sligo County Council Creative Ireland programme wishes to establish The Cormorant as a legacy long-term literary programme in partnership with the editors. The Cormorant is a folded broadsheet of poetry and prose that invites submissions from established and emerging writers not only from this region but across the globe. The broadsheet emerged as a response to the quality of writing in this region and the array of voices. It is also a response to the absence of a publication that captures these emerging and established voices in an accessible format for the wider Sligo community.

The Cormorant is not just a folded A2 sheet of paper, it is a community of people, it is networking that happens at the event and the launch itself where writers having the opportunity to read their work in front of an audience. Friendships and networks have evolve from this - invitations for writers to other festivals and invitations to submit to other publications.

The publication reaches a wide community of readers. Each edition of The Cormorant is distributed for free across County Sligo, bringing the prose and poetry of Sligo based writers to a much wider community who may not attend writing events or festivals but picked up a copy while getting a coffee or shopping.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
