Tapestry weaving has been part of cultural heritage all over the world and the tradition of tapestry weaving is thousands of years old. This new work ‘Healing, Renewal and Peace’ continues that tradition, and will stand proudly within contemporary art leaving a legacy for the future.
The Timelines Tapestry group will build on their previous collaboration over the last 2 years and work on both the design and weaving of a new Timelines project. The theme around this design work is healing, renewal and peace, particularly after the collective experiences everyone went through over the last few years with the Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
The eight artists and Irish tapestry weavers collaborating on this project are living and working in 7 local authority areas. Many have woven professionally for decades and have been widely exhibited. For others, tapestry weaving is part of their creative practice.
They are Terry Dunne Wexford, Lorna Donlon Dun Laoghaire Rathdown, Frances Crowe Roscommon, Catherine Ryan Laois, Heather Underwood Cork City, Tish Canniffe- Pascale De Coninck Co Cork, Muriel Beckett Wicklow.
