This project will create a hybrid animated documentary series that brings to life the rich cultural, social, and environmental heritage of the Grand Canal, Old Vicarstown School, and the Fort of Dunrally. Combining animation, archival material, oral histories, and documentary storytelling, the series will uncover the histories, memories, and local significance of these interconnected landmarks within County Laois. Through interviews with community members, researchers, and local historians, alongside creatively animated interpretations of historical events and personal recollections, the project will explore themes of education, transport, industry, community life, and landscape change over time. 

The Grand Canal will be examined as a vital historic waterway that shaped the region’s development, while Old Vicarstown School will provide a lens into rural education and community identity. The Fort of Dunrally, with its archaeological and historical importance, will offer insights into the area’s deeper past and enduring legacy. By blending fact-based documentation with imaginative visual storytelling, the series aims to engage audiences of all ages, preserve local heritage, and create an accessible and compelling record of the people, places, and stories that have shaped this unique part of Laois.
