Wainfest Children’s Art and Book Festival
Wainfest Children’s Arts and Book festival has evolved into one of the largest children’s cultural festivals in the country in terms of duration, diversity and scope. The festival provides opportunities for children from birth to twelve years for creative engagement with reading, language, arts, culture and heritage. The festival strives to be truly inclusive by providing events across the whole county, including the off shore islands.
In 2022 Wainfest will bring award winning composer David Goodall and Irish Fashion Designer Rebecca Marsden to Donegal for a lightweight, magical, flexible piece that will provide high quality arts experiences for children in the 4-12-year age bracket who have complex needs or life limiting illnesses. The intimate show Sweet Dreams Are Made of This will be full of gorgeous live harmony singing and spectacular costumes. FabLab will deliver STEAM workshops on 3D printing, product design and manufacturing to children aged 10-12. In bringing performance art to our Gaeltacht and offshore Island communities, Wainfest will bring the non-verbal show Lá Brea Bog to marginalised areas in Donegal. The show created by Branar and New International Encounter for children aged 2-4 will combine live music and clown performance to tell a story of the simple (and very complicated) confusions of stepping out into the world.
