War of Independence - Discovery Boxes

The War of Independence was a seminal time in Irish history. To broaden awareness of the period, particularly the role of County Wexford in 1919-21, and to encourage more discourse among younger people, this project will see the commission of ‘Discovery Boxes’ of replica documents and artefacts which will be loaned to primary and post-primary pupils across County Wexford.

Items from the boxes will include replica hand revolvers, bullets, pieces of uniform, medals, prison correspondence and a profile of 2 men and 2 women from the War of Independence collections held by Wexford County Archive.

The boxes will also include teachers’ notes which will feature some printed high resolution images from the county archive’s War of Independence collections. An online element will be available from Autumn 2020 from Wexford County Archive’s website.
