Weaving Communities - Reviving Willow Weaving
Our group members have a keen interest in learning new skills, particularly skills that are unfortunately beginning to “die out” due to our changing society and industrialisation.
We are extremely fortunate to have members within our group community who are proficient in knitting, crochet, painting, textile weaving, embroidery to name but a few, who gladly impart their knowledge and happily teach other group members, ensuring that knowledge of these weaning cultural traditional crafts remain practiced throughout the generations.
Group members each year decide what additional crafts they would like revive within the group. This year “willow weaving” was chosen. Members chose this craft in particular due to its stainability and its many creative applications. It is hoped by learning this new skillset that the group can use the skills and knowledge acquired in future community projects.
Willow weaving classes will be facilitated by tutor Tom Delaney – “Ouldcrafty”, Clairemorris, Co. Mayo.
The class will consist of a 7-hour long session wherein attendees will learn willow weaving techniques and will create a willow bread basket.
Each class has a maximum of 8 participants. We propose running 3 classes of 8 participants.
All tools and materials will be provided by the tutor.
The cost of the class is €65 per person to include tutor fees €400 x 3 = €1,200), tutor travel expenses (€50 x 3 = €150) and venue rental (€70 x 3 = €210).
Total project cost €65 x 24 members = €1,560.00
