Clann Toirc – Family of Boars in Kanturk
Ceann Toirc (Boars Head) legend always taught to children in our schools states that the last wild boar on the island of Ireland was slain in Kanturk – believe it or not.
Kanturk Tidy Towns group commissioned local Lithuanian artists, Kate Rusinova and Anton Rusinov to construct a boar to symbolise the town and its story. It is to be situated on a green space between the Mallow Road and the Buttevant Road
These talented artists had last year completed a biodiversity project constructing a large butterfly and bee which is much admired. They suggested on this occasion a boar family (CLANN TOIRC). These structures will be made from steel frame covered with fiberglass. They will be painted with scenes from the town by local artists.
