This year's in-person event marks our 16th year working in youth filmmaking with the support of Cork County Council, SECAD and our other partners. This exciting and important annual event for young filmmakers is an integral part of Cork Young Filmmakers, the now countywide young filmmaker’s training programme for which Cork County Council has made provision in the Arts Budget, annually since 2006.

Young people from throughout Cork County attend this event which provides a place for young filmmakers, their families and friends to gather to celebrate this Gala screening of their work.

'Cork Young Filmmakers' is managed by Cork Film Centre with workshops taking place in partnership with schools, youth projects and clubs and in a wide range of organisations working with young people throughout the County.

This has been funded by Cork County Council in partnership with SECAD, Cork ETB, Creative Ireland and the Arts Council of Ireland. Taking place initially in South Cork, it has extended over the years into Central, North and West Cork. The Gala involves the young person’s broader community, bringing together family and friends to enjoy the films that are made. 

Short films will be premiered, awards & certificates will be presented, and some films will go forward for screening at the annual First Cut! Youth Film Festival, a sister project taking place in Youghal in March 2022 screening short films, both national and international, made by young people.
