Cultural Companions
Launched in 2021, when events were online, Cork Cultural Companions was relaunched in the last quarter of 2022 with the establishment of Cultural Companion hubs or local networks. Local hub groups of between 8-24 participants have attended 18 events around Cork from Sept 2022 to April 2023. Membership has grown to over 300 members creating an additional audience of approximately 160+ at Cork arts and cultural events.
From 2023-26 Cork Cultural Companions, aims to build on the positive response to the programme, and increase opportunities for participation by establishing further local hubs across the County.
The programme aspires to develop and nurture sustainable and resilient networks of members that actively engage with the programme on a regular basis by attending events and helping to inform the types of events and frequency of attendance.
Hub groups, steered by volunteer members, have this year been established in Bantry - serving West Cork - and Mallow, serving North Cork.
The development of a further Cultural Companions hub to serve East Cork is currently in the early planning stages with an expected launch in the third quarter of 2023
