Jessie Kennedy and the Celestial Strings in the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium Dome Theatre

Each year the West Cork History Festival features a concert with new music responding to historical themes and personalities. The concert is composed and arranged by our long-term collaborator West Cork musician Jessie Kennedy, working this year with West Cork musicians the Celestial Strings. This year the concert was inspired by the life and work of Agnes Clerke, a pioneering astronomer and scientist born in Skibbereen in the 1840s. It includes a number of specially composed pieces and also music contemporary to Agnes’ time and which she might herself have performed. The concert had its premiere at the West Cork History Festival in August and on 25th November will be performed at the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium (AOP). AOP is one of the island of Ireland’s leading centres for astronomical research and education and an appropriate place to celebrate one of Ireland's leading female astronomers.

Performing the concert in Armagh will showcase the considerable talents of four West Cork-based musicians – Jessie Kennedy, a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and writer; Tess Leak, an artist and musician; Diana Llewellyn, teacher and musician and Susan McManamon, teacher and musician.
