Social Prescribing
Cork County Council works with five social prescribing networks throught County Cork to deliver creative engagement opportunities for Social Prescribing clients. Cork County Arts Office has trained artists and facilitators in the area of social prescirbing. A trained panel of facilitators deliver 5-6 weeks of continuous sessions for clients. The sessions are selected by the link workers based on the clients’ interests. There is a menu of accessible creative sessions, eg: mindful creative writing, sketchbook journalling, choir, ukelele, paper crafting, etc. The sessions are delivered in a safe, fun, group setting enabling participants to practice social skills and build confidence. Link workers tie the sessions into other opportunites in the community, for example music workshops leading to clients joining a community choir in Mallow, and craft workshops leading to a group of clients setting up a womens group in Dunmanway.
The Social Prescribing networks Cork County Council work with are:
- CAHA Centre Adrigole
- Dunmanway Family Resource Centre
- Mallow Family Resource Centre
- Midleton Family Resource Centre
- Ballincollig Family Resource Centre specifically for outreach in the Macroom area
To deliver this, Cork County Arts Office works with the National Family Resource Centre Mental Health project which manages the social prescribing service in Cork and the HSE via the Health Promotion and Improvement art and culture portfolio.
