Song Seeking - Direct Provision Centres

Song Seeking is a national group singing research project within Direct Provision Centres. The project involves a cross-agency collaboration between Mary Immaculate College (MIC), the Association of Irish Choirs (AOIC) and the Irish Refugee Council (IRC). Across six direct provision (DP) centres, the project involves intergenerational group singing workshops, shared ’SingIn’ days with local choirs, a new choral commission, a large- scale ‘Big Sing’ event and a final conference. Research throughout the process and from multiple perspectives is integral to the project. Cork County Council, through the Creative Ireland Programme, was able to support the inclusion of the Direct Provision Centre in Clonakilty in the project – a tremendous success.
