The Poets’ Trees Project is a collection of original poems submitted by local poets and those with some connection to Kanturk for an outdoor poetry installation on the magnificent trees on the banks of the river Dalua in O’Brien Street Park, Kanturk.
Submissions came in from all ages from 6 to 90+. The project is running from June to mid-July 2021 making poetry accessible to all.
Near 70 poems on subjects from lockdown to rugby and everything in between were submitted in all and it is the intention of the Kanturk Arts Festival to put them into book form and so celebrate the creativity of all the poets, whether first time or established. The hope is that it will encourage more people to take up poetry as an art form. The book will be available to purchase in the autumn and will be a permanent keepsake of the event when the installation has been taken down. This project is supported by Creative Ireland and Cork County Council.
