Seagrass Sessions

Seagrass plantations are important for aquatic life and for humans. They provide a space for young fish to grow as they suck up as much carbon dioxide as a rain forest. We are very lucky to have such a Seagrass plantation just off the coast of Tramore. The Seagrass Sessions project will share with the people of Tramore just how precious this area is, to protect it and possibly even to expand it over the coming years.

For the young people of Tramore there will be a chance to learn how to photograph the Seagrass. These sessions will be led by local ecologist Tasneem Khan. Over the two sessions 24 young people will learn the value of this important ecosystem.

On the shore Sile Walsh will lead art workshops with active retirement groups using found material on the beach. Participants will learn about the Seagrass and design a piece of art to reflect their feelings on the importance of sea protection.

The fishing community will have their stories captured in short videos and all three art pieces – the photographs, the sculpture and the videos will be exhibited in the Tramore Coast Guard as part of the Vitamin Sea festival.
